Welcome to my Arch Lab web page. From here you can read about my background and research interests, download some basic scripts I have written for Matlab and Praat, peruse my CV and link to my personal web page.

BACKGROUND - I have been an ASHA certified licensed speech-language pathologist since 1989, and have worked in the cognitive training field with Scientific Learning Corp. and Posit Science Corp. before pursuing my Ph.D. at GMU. I am interested in the coordination of speech and language and the role of communication context in shaping verbal communication.

RESEARCH - I presently have two lines of research. My dissertation research is being conducted with Dr. Betty Tuller, from Florida Atlantic University. I am examining dynamical patterns of phonological learning, particularly how individuals' pre-training phonologic maps influence successive learning. I am also examining how speech production changes with receptive phonological learning in the absense of specific speech production training.

I am also working with Dr. Sarah Kriz from the University of Washington on robot-directed communication. We are examining speech patterns of people communicating with different types of technology and contrasting that with interpersonal communication. This research aims to contribute to the development of machine communication systems that are designed around and accommodate the specific types of communication they are likely to encounter from humans.
